Possibilities for Peace

Joseph Gerson on Gaza & Ukraine Wars, Asian Common Security

New Hampshire Peace Action Webinar, Oct. 23, 2023

Although the Ukraine war seems to be deadlocked, the world situation is unusually fluid, uncertain, and dangerous. Biden’s National Security Strategy stated that “the post-Cold War era is definitively over and a competition is underway between the major powers to shape what comes next.” Fiona Hill, former official at the U.S. National Security Council, recently said that the Ukraine war demonstrates to everyone that Pax Americana is now history.

Amid these and other events unfolding around us, Joseph Gerson will draw on lessons from his recent travels, conferences and exposure tours to Vienna, Seoul, Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki, as well as the East Asian and European Common Security projects he is involved in to help us more deeply understand this moment and how we can best engage to advocate for a more peaceful path forward.

Joseph Gerson is President of the Campaign for Peace, Disarmament and Common Security, Convener of Peace & Planet International Network, and co-chair of the Committee for a Sane U.S.-China Policy. He works closely with peace organizations and advocates across the United States, Asia-Pacific and Europe. His books include Empire and the Bomb: How the U.S. Uses Nuclear Weapons to Dominate the World and With Hiroshima Eyes.
