2025 Summary Report: Campaign for Peace, Disarmament and Common Security

An overview of our accomplishments in 2025.

Nuclear Disarmament

  • Chairing 2026 NPT Review Conference overall planning and conference subcommittee. Plans now call for a conference on Sunday April 26 in New York, a weekday street action, and discussions are moving forward for a combined statement to the RevCon and one or more side events inside the U.N. during the first week of the session.
  • Participated In UNODA consultation on finding openings for revitalized nuclear disarmament diplomacy.
  • Planning for visit of Hibakusha to Boston May 2-5ll 2026
  • 5nuclear disarmament video with Terry, Randy Wurzer, Susan Mirsky, and myself
  • Middle East Nuclear Weapons & WMD-Free Zone webinar with Emad Kiyae & Sharon Dolev
  • Initiated youth nuclear disarmament working group.

  • Arranged for national Peace Action to iterate Sharon Dolev in Washington, D.C. following UN meeting for a Middle East Nuclear Weapons and WME Free-Zone
  • Attended Arms Control Association annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
  • Attended U.N. High Level Meeting for Nuclear Disarmament in New York
  • Signed CPDCS onto Sept. 26 Int’l Day for Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons joint appeal and sent to our email lists on 9/26, the international day.
  • Testified at State House joint committee in favor of TPNW-related legislation.
  • Solidarity Message for Gensuikyo’s 70th anniversary
  • Boston Hiroshima-Nagasaki planning
    • Chaired ad hoc coalition planning committee which organized 6 hours of commemoration activities, including speeches by 20+ community and movement leaders, with greetings from Rep. McGovern, Nihon Hidankyo, and Gensuikyo
    • Wonderfully assisted by MAPA intern Owen Madaus – couldn’t have done it without him.
    • Drafted and arranged Boston Sign On advertisement with more than 200 signatures.
    • Arranged full page signature ad in the Boston Globe (thanks to Jay for his design, web and e-blast work that made it possible.)
    • Coordinated development of 70-minute video for commemoration with archival footage, Hibakusha testimonies, excerpts from Nihon Hidankyo Nobel Peace Prize speeches, and statements from U.S., South Korean, Filipino, IPB, and British CND movement leaders. Also, a contribution from Rep. Jim McGovern for display in 80th Anniversary event site
  • World Conference against A- & H-Bombs – Hiroshima & Nagasaki
    • Board members Nick Rabb and Ann Wright also participated. Nick co-chaired the August 6 World Conference Rally. Ann gave an international conference keynote, spoke as a panelist in the first Hiroshima Government & Civil Society forum and in numerous other meetings and for a.
    • I drafted and delivered four speeches for the World Conference against A- & H-Bombs in Hiroshima: a keynote for the International Conference, two panels with ambassadors from Austria, Malaysia, Egypt, and Cuba, and a civil society organizers speech at the August 6 World Conference rally.
    • Edited versions of the keynote transformed into articles for Common Dreams and the MAPA newsletter.
    • Participated in the Hiroshima Declaration committee and as co-chair of the international conference may have tipped the conference into accepting former Egyptian ambassador Menom and Jeremy Corbyn’s proposals to include a call for the creation of a Palestinian state coexisting with Israel, in addition to the call for a ceasefire, into the resolution.
    • Very interesting learnings and discussions with ambassadors and leading international and Japanese movement leaders
  • WGDR Central Vermont Public radio – ½ hour interview on Iran nuclear issues, other nuclear dangers, and the 80th anniversary
  • Chaired plenary of MIT/MAPA Reducing the Nuclear Dangers online conference with George Bebe of Quincy Institute, Lyle Goldstein of Watson Center at Brown University, Sharon Dolev, and Emad Kiyaei of Middle East Treaty Organization.
  • Keynote speech and workshop talks in Bikini Day commemoration conference (Shizuoka, Japan)

Common Security

  • Wrote and published extended analysis of Trump/MAGA National Security Strategy
  • Track II Sessions on challenges to arms control diplomacy in an era of increasing multipolarity and possible proliferation, restoring strategic stability after the Ukraine War, Trump’s threat to resume nuclear weapons testing, competition for control of the Arctic, and more.
  • Co-sponsored with MAPA and spoke in webinar about the Trump/MAGA National Security Strategy with Khury Petersen-Smith of Institute for Policy Studies
  • Understanding the Dangerous Trump-MAGA National Security Strategy, Common Dreams
  • Co-authored with Reiner Braun an extensive article encouraging and providing a roadmap for European common security.
  • Spoke in webinar on European developments and peace movement priorities.

Indo-Pacific

  • Lecture, to Capital Region Humanist Society (Albany area) on U.S.-Chinese relations.
  • Participated in Korean Peace Network and Women Cross the DMZ online meeting with Brandon Alberts and Sofia Fong on Senator Warren’s office regarding language in the NDAA which would prevent U.S. troop reductions in South Korea and return of full operational control of the ROK military to the ROK government.
  • Korea Peace Week, member of Massachusetts delegation meeting online with Hope Revelle of Sen. Warren’s staff and Tom Colina in Markey’s office. Focus on impacts of family separation.
  • Co-sponsor webinar on U.S.-China rivalry over Taiwan with Lyle Goldstein of Brown University
  • Working with Professor Hideki 0Yoshikawa, sought assistance from Tom Collina in Senator Markey’s office for information out of the GAO related to the destructive and futile efforts to construct a massive new air and naval base in Henoko, Okinawa.

Europe/Ukraine/Gaza/Venezuela

  • Co-authored updates No to War-No to NATO Manifesto (title include Common Security)
  • Participated in No to War/No to NATO international coordination committee meeting where I to shared first impressions on the Trump/MAGA National Security Statement.
  • Participated in MAPA Ukraine Working Group (chaired by Paul Shannon)
  • Participated in off the record Quincy Institute civil society consultation on Trump 28-point Ukraine “peace” plan.
  • e-blasts urging opposition to war with Venezuela.
  • Signed onto an UNRWA USA addressed to Secretary of State urging the U.S. to reverse its support for the banning of UNRWA from Gaza
  • Attended Watertown Gaza standouts & evening panel, and a rally (organized by Paul Shannon) in support of Mass. Legislation to end pension investments in weapons manufacturers supplying weapons to Israel.
  • Participated in No to War/No to NATO conference in The Hague on the eve of the NATO summit.
  • Restimony to a joint session in the Massachusetts state legislature in support of legislation to ban investing state pension funds in Israel or corporations that produce weapons of mass destruction.
  • webinar/podcast organized by an Iranian exile in Colorado which connected with Iran Veteran Peace Seekers in Teheran
  • Drafted CPDCS statement opposing Israel’s attack on Iran and urging ceasefire and common security diplomacy.
  • *Participated in No Iran War rally, organized in part by Paul Shannon and read our statement there.
  •  Spoke in a No War on Iran rally organized by NIAC, MAPA and others.

Defending Constitutional Democracy

IPB

  • Chaired IPB Board meetings with movement and organizational leaders from 20 countries, ranging from South Africa and South Korea to Germany and Venezuela
  •  Initiated or promoted working groups on priorities, affiliate polling, Indo-Pacific, and Europe
  • Elected co-president of International Peace Bureau, a Nobel Peace Prize Recipient organization.
  • Keynote speech (Trump authoritarianism, nuclear weapons, and Indo-Pacific), Centre Delas annual conference in Barcelona.
  • Reviewed, tweaked, and approved numerous IPB statements.
  • Speaker with Kate Hudson of CND, in the CPDCS/IPB webinar on understanding developments in Europe
