PREVENT VENEZUELAN WAR AND ILLEGAL REGIME

Prevent Venezuelan War and Illegal Regime

The statement denounces U.S. plans for military intervention in Latin America and urges support for S.J. Res. 83 to stop illegal actions, calling on citizens and organizations to take action.

Friends,

We have no illusions about Trump’s contempt for the law, Congress, or anyone else. Nor do we respect the corrupt and failing Venezuelan autocracy that has led more than four million people to leave the country in search of essential personal security.

BUT, that said, we must do all that we can to oppose yet another brutal and nationally self-defeating round of imperial Yankee gunboat “diplomacy” in Latin America and preparations for deadly military intervention. The two organizational sign-on letters that CPDCS has endorsed (links below) tell the story, including Venezuela’s relatively minor role in the drug trade, the decades old failures of the war on drugs, and the Trump/Rubio/Pentagon disregard for international and U.S, law.

These threats and preparations conflict with MAGA “American First” commitments and with Trump’s pursuit of a Nobel Peace Prize, it is possible that we can win sufficient support for Senators Schiff’s and Kaine’s War Powers Resolution, S.J.Res.83, rein in the Trump Administration’s dangerous, illegal actions.

Please contact your senators to urge them to support S.J. Res 83, and if you are associated with an organization, please urge it to sign on these two letters:
