Friends,
It has been eighty years since the atomic bombs were unjustly dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Those bombs took the lives of more than 200,000 Japanese citizens almost immediately, and tens of thousands more over time due to radiation exposure. Despite the memory of these horrors, the danger of nuclear war is worse than ever.
A coalition of Boston area peace, justice, and environmental organizations has prepared a major event to mark and build from the 80th anniversaries of the A-bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The event will be on August 6th from 12:00 – 8:00 pm at Dewey Square, Boston. It will feature speeches from Nobel Peace Prize recipients, Hibakusha (survivors of the atomic bombing), and various local leaders. There will also be live music and tables featuring local organizations and a station to fold origami peace cranes. The event will commemorate Hiroshima and Nagasaki, educate on past and current dangers, and provide actionable steps to reduce the threat of nuclear war and move towards complete disarmament.
To ensure maximum impact we need your help. On Monday, August 4th, we will be featuring a full-page ad in the Boston Globe that begins with the A-bomb survivor’s warning that “Human beings and nuclear weapons cannot coexist”, urging nuclear disarmament, and urging people to join us for talks, music.
To pay for the ad, for which we are aiming for at least 250 signers in 10 days we ask for a $10 donation to add your signature to this ad and declare no more Nagasakis, no more Hiroshimas, and no more Hibakusha!
Every action matters. Join us to make your voice heard in the global struggle to prevent nuclear war!
